Heavy Traffic

You know what? I think this is the first time this year that I’ve gone through rush hour traffic. Why only the first time? Well thanks to the irregular hours at work, I was usually able to escape rush hour traffic. It’s nice to know that night shifts are actually good for one thing.

I had to work the regular shift today. Yeah, you’re not blind and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with your eyes. I worked the same hours that millions of other people do. That was also a first for this year. Why? Coz I had to take some sort of English Skills Test. It’s a test which measures how proficient I am in writing, listening, reading, and speaking the English language. Go figure.

How’d I do in the test? I don’t want to blurt out any confident and boasting premonition coz I might be shamed by the time the results come out. Overall, I think I did okay. It was a total of 100 points so I probably did about 110 or something around those lines. Where’d the bonus points come from? I think the proctor had the hots for me. I’m pretty sure she’s gonna give me those extra points.

Let’s go back to the horrible traffic topic. Because it’s been such a long time since I’ve done this, I wasn’t really aware how bad traffic was. And during the times that I’ve worked the regular shift before, I commuted so I really did not notice that it was hell on earth (well at least along EDSA and Makati). I opted to drive today so that I could have that luxury to go to some place after work if ever I felt like it.

You guys know what happened? Well it took me 2 hours to arrive at the office and another 2 hours to get home! I had wasted 4 hours of my time on the road! Not to mention the gasoline consumed! I mean, 4 hours… That’s the amount of time it takes to drive from my home to my girl’s province!! I should’ve gone there instead (ahem, don’t I at least get a kiss from Ira here?). So yeah, I wasn’t able to go to any place after work, except home of course.

Traffic was real bad and these are the times that I wish my car had an automatic tranny. Wait, on second thought, I’d still prefer the manual one. I can get more acceleration that way because during traffic, it’s all about how fast you can get to the fastest lane. Does that make any sense?

I’m just glad to be home right now after that grueling road trip. I’m gonna put a reminder in my head every time I’m on the regular shift. Never ever ever ever drive.

Ever.

Later.
